Frequently Asked Questions
Last updated January 1, 2021. Please contact me by email if your questions are not answered below.
What flavor are your cookies?
My standard flavoring is a vanilla sugar cookie with lemon icing. If you're interested in other flavor combinations, please make note in your order inquiry and we can discuss options.
How much do you charge?
Cookies start at $3.50 each. Please see the Cookie Pricing page for pricing details.
Is there a minimum order?
Yes, the minimum order is one (1) dozen cookies. After the first dozen, you can order any number of cookies.
How far in advance should I place my order?
I try very hard to accept all orders, but I'm just one person, and my family counts on me to be a mom and wife, too. It's best to inquire about your order as soon as you know about your event, celebration, or random interest in cookies for a day that ends in Y! Because family life can change randomly, orders are accepted up to 3 months in advance. Orders placed with less than one (1) weeks notice limit my ability to get the perfect cutter for your order, may result in a rush order fee of 25% of the order total, or may not be possible at all.
Do you create character cookies?
I do not create cookies that are trademarked, copyrighted or otherwise licensed. The only exception to this is UW Madison, Badger and Bucky themed cookies since I have a crafters license from the University to create such cookies.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash or credit card via Square sent by emailed invoice. An invoice is sent for all orders and a 50% retainer is required regardless of payment method. I do not accept checks, Venmo or PayPal at this time.
How do I get started in placing my order?
Please see the Order Inquiry page to get started. Complete the form and I will get back to you within 48 hours.
What if I need to cancel my order?
Orders may be cancelled up to 14 days before the pick up date at which time your deposit would be refundable. Orders cancelled 13 days or less from the finalized order pick up date will result in forfeiture of deposit. Cookies freeze well should your event be unexpectedly cancelled or rescheduled.
Do you offer refunds?
Refunds are not offered. Cookies are made to order by hand, as such, cookies may very in color and style. Midnight Makes and Bakes is not responsible for damage to cookies once they are picked up by the ordering person or their designee.
I LOVED (or hated) my cookies - where can I leave a review/testimonial for the world to see!?
Of course I hope you LOVED your cookies, but I take any and all feedback on this form here. Please note that submitting feedback does give me permission to share it as I see fit on my website, social media platforms, print marketing, etc.
Can cookie orders be shipped?
I am able to ship cookie orders within the state of Wisconsin only. Shipping fees will apply and average $20 per order, sometimes more. Preference is that orders are picked up at my home in Sun Prairie, WI. Occasionally I am able to deliver your order to you. This will need to be discussed and arranged at the time your order is confirmed, and it may result in an additional fee depending on location. Delivery to UW Madison is $15.
How are cookies packaged?
Your cookies will be individually heat sealed in a food grade poly bag for freshness unless other arrangements are made. For an additional fee, you may select from a number of additional packaging options which include ribbons/bows, a themed tag with or without ribbon, a window box or any combination of those items. The average additional cost is $5 per dozen, but may be higher depending on request(s).
Can I freeze these cookies?
YES! If your cookies won't be consumed within about 2 weeks of pick up, they can and should be frozen. Place your heat sealed cookies in a freezer safe container. Rather than stacking on top of one another, line them up on their sides. Remove freezer safe container from the freezer approximately 24 hours before you need them and DO NOT OPEN THE CONTAINER (Ziploc bag, Tupperware, whatever) until they are completely thawed. By doing this, you will avoid getting condensation in with the cookies, which will cause them to be ruined (soggy cookie, runny icing). Again, do NOT open the container until the cookies have had time to completely thaw.
What ingredients are used?
Cookies: all purpose flour, granulated sugar, butter, eggs, pure vanilla extract, baking powder, salt
Icing: powdered sugar, meringue powder, water, corn syrup, pure lemon extract, gel food coloring
Additionally, some cookies may be embellished with sprinkles, nonpareils, airbrushing, edible paints, edible pens, etc. The ingredients for those items can be provided upon request.
Are your cookies allergen friendly?
I'm unable to guarantee allergen friendly cookies at this time. As you can see in my ingredient list, my cookies contain egg, flour, and butter. While my ingredients themselves do not contain nuts of any form I cannot guarantee there is no cross contamination at the processing facility, the warehouse, the store or my home for any of the ingredients used in my products.
Is Midnight Makes & Bakes a licensed bakery?
No. I operate my home based cookie business under the Wisconsin Cottage Food Laws and am not subject to state inspections.
Where can I see more of photos of your cookies? How can I get in touch with you?
Midnight Makes & Bakes is on Facebook, Instagram and can be reached via email at sarah@midnightmakesandbakes.com
How did Midnight Makes & Bakes get it's name?
As I was exploring the idea of making this hobby into a business, I wanted a name that fit me, my personality, my family, and my intentions for how I wanted to see my business grow. My kids are very close in age, and at that time (and now throughout the COVID pandemic) both of them are home throughout the day... meaning I do my baking and decorating after they are in bed, often times greeting midnight upon it's arrival. I also knew that I had an interest in possibly making a business out of more than just baked goods. While that's definitely still a goal of mine, 2020 has proven that you just don't know when your expectations will need some adjustments.
